Daybreak’s Permadeath MMORPG Wizardry Online Is Being Resurrected By Fans

Daybreak Games’ hardcore permadeath MMORPG Wizardry Online is coming back to life as a rogue server more than seven years after it was shut down in the west. The private server is being operated by a group of fans who are currently working to revive the game using the Japanese client, which remained operational two years longer than the western version.

The team already has a test server up for anyone interested in taking the newly-resurrected game for a spin. Note that the test server itself is still a work in progress that will only allow players to explore the game world. Most NPCs and mobs as well as the game’s combat system have yet to be added.

“We are working as much as we can to get this game back to a playable state. Just know that we are trying our best to get the game back and will continue until we do,” said the team.

“To be clear our goal is to preserve this game, and give the most accurate, faithful, and authentic feel possible,” they added. “The current aim is to make the server available to everyone and anyone. The server is open source and will stay that way. We hope to keep as many people on our server as possible. If you decide to make your own, that's fine but again we would like to keep everyone within our server to keep the player-base as whole as possible.”
