EA Executives Will Reportedly Decide On The Fate Of Anthem This Week

Electronic Arts Entertainment CEO Andrew Wilson itted as much during E3 2019 later that year saying that the multiplayer shooter didn’t meet their expectations.

After one major post-launch content update and several seasonal updates, BioWare finally threw in the towel and announced their plans to reboot the game. In a blog post in February 2020 BioWare General Manager Casey Hudson said that, “We recognize that there’s still more fundamental work to be done to bring out the full potential of the experience, and it will require a more substantial reinvention than an update or expansion.

“Over the coming months we will be focusing on a longer-term redesign of the experience, specifically working to reinvent the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges and progression with meaningful rewards – while preserving the fun of flying and fighting in a vast science-fantasy setting,” he added.

According to a report on Bloomberg, the fate of Anthem now lies in the hands of EA’s executives who will be reviewing Anthem Next this week and will be deciding whether to expand the 30-person team or abandon the project altogether. Bloomberg’s sources said that the project needs to expand to triple its size to continue the overhaul and create new content for the game.

As of now, there’s no clear indication of whether EA will be willing to invest more funds and manpower into the project. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Reboots, reworks, and revamps aren’t uncommon in the gaming industry and some of them turn out to be hugely successful in the long run, like Bless Unleashed and Cyberpunk 2077 are still working their way towards redemption.
