EverQuest II’s Latest Expansion Scars of Destruction Launches
EverQuest 2 fans have a lot to explore with the launch of the game's latest expansion, Scars of Destruction. Released yesterday, the expansion introduces a whole host of new content, a character level boost to 130, and various gameplay enhancements aimed at freshening up the beloved MMO.
While the base game remains free to play, expansions like Scars of Destruction require purchase, and players on certain progression servers, such as Anashti Sul Origins, need an active subscription to access them.
What’s New in Scars of Destruction?
This expansion delves into the scarred coastlines of Odus and the perilous Western Wastes, offering new storylines, challenging dungeons, and raid content for players to conquer. Here’s what players can look forward to:
- Level Boost: Each receives a boost to level 130 for one character, allowing players to jump into the new content without grinding through earlier levels.
- New Armor and Quests:
- Blackhook Armor: Exclusive to this expansion, these sets are both powerful and visually striking.
- Adventure, Tradeskill, and Signature Quests: Journey through uncharted territories to uncover an evil mastermind’s plans and gain rewards.
New Areas
The narrative of Scars of Destruction takes players through Odus’ scarred coastline, where Quellious’ followers and healers rally adventurers to counter the spread of violence. Key areas include:
- Western Wastes: Home to Veeshan’s legacy and the dangerous Dragon Necropolis, filled with both lore and peril.
- Blackhook Spiral: A focal point for challenging Solo, Heroic, and Raid content.
Players can also ally with the Open Hand faction to fend off Blackhook Raiders, brave intense storms, and acquire the tools needed to stop a dark army from seizing an arcane artifact.
Quality-of-Life Enhancements
The expansion introduces practical improvements to gameplay, particularly on the Anashti Sul Origins server:
- Petamorph Key Ring: A new way to organize and showcase collected pet appearances.
- Weapon Auras: Add unique visual effects to weapons for a more personalized touch.
A Mix of Old and New
While the game launched over 20 years ago in November 2004, it continues to run and gets updated frequently. Same goes for the original EverQuest which has run continously since.
As one of the longest-running MMORPGs, EverQuest II continues to balance nostalgia with fresh content. While the base game remains free to play, Scars of Destruction provides a new depth of challenges for veterans and a welcoming entry point for newcomers using the level boost.
