French Police Detain Former Ubisoft Executives Over Sexual Harassment Claims

The mistakes of the past have come back to haunt Ubisoft when French authorities moved against those who were accused of sexual misconduct back in 2020. According to French newspaper Libération, the police picked up five former Ubisoft employees and a former executive earlier this week and detained them for questioning for 24 hours.

Among those who were detained were former Chief Creative Officer Serge Hascoët and former Editorial Vice President Tommy François, both of whom left the company amid sexual harassment allegations. No charges have been filed as of yet.

While the accused employees haven’t been with the company since 2020 following Ubisoft’s attempts to clean up its ranks, it still paints the studio in a bad light even as they face criticism for multiple game delays, crunch culture, and more recently, a return-to-office mandate that proved extremely unpopular with its employees.
