Here Are Two Silly Ways That Players Avoided Bans In MMOs This Week

Bans in online games are inevitable. Someone's going to hack or speak ill of someone else in a way that the developers aren't comfortable with or what-have-you. But not all bans are created equal, as some of this week's bans have uncovered.

Revelation Online launched earlier this month to moderate reception. Since its launch, most players have been fixated on discussions of how to level efficiently, how to obtain gold gear, the best builds for each class, and all sorts of other min-maxing. But most players ignored this hilarious ban policy that was uncovered by a Reddit .

You see, when you do anything that would get you chat banned, such as spamming or being "toxic," you will are given a ban that lasts for a certain amount of time. Hilariously, the timer will only count down while you are online. Once the timer is up, you are then required to pay an increasing amount of either Aurum, the cash shop currency, or either Imperial Coins or Imperial Notes, the in-game currencies. After hitting the fifth ban, you are stuck with an 18-hour timer and an 800 Aurum or 60,000 Imperial Coins/Imperial Notes fee for each ban.

With this ban policy having been unveiled, one has to wonder if the reason that gold sellers continue to exist in Revelation Online is that My.com simply doesn't care what they do so long as they pay up each time they get chat banned.

Our second silly case of ban avoidance was uncovered by 2p. A player in Black Desert Online made a habit of killing roleplayers in-game and saying such things as "DEATH TO RPERS"—yes, that is a direct quote. As penance, a GM made him choose between writing a 501-word essay—yes, exactly 501 words—or be banned. The GM then made a spectacle of the player in question turning in said essay by stating on Reddit that, despite having met their demands, the GMs would be watching the player in question, making sure that they don't do it again.

Have you heard of any other silly ways that GMs have let players avoid bans? Let us know in the comments!
