Last Oasis Will Be Removing Its Hallmark Scorch Mechanic Come Season 5
Unlike most survival MMORPG’s where you could just build a base in one spot, Last Oasis forces players to constantly move around from one oasis to another to avoid the super-heated sun as it scorches the face of a post-apocalyptic Earth. This nomadic gameplay mechanic prevented players from getting too comfortable in one spot and to keep moving and building as they go.
While the whole concept of the game was built around this mechanic, developer Donkey Crew has decided to do away with it altogether and will be offering a more permanent gameplay experience when its game-changing fifth season officially kicks off.
“Season Five is – very intentionally – a much more static experience. You will have a permanent main base from which you go on adventures with your crew on Walkers, and eventually have to return to it,” explains Donkey Crew in its latest dev blog. “With this approach, the Burn does very little to aid this experience – quite the opposite, we believe it would mostly just be frustrating.”
That being said, the game will still feature a character progression. Some oases, however, will need to be deleted to keep the population balanced and affected players will have to relocate to another oasis. The team will be announcing which oases will be removed and will give players plenty of warning before they’re deleted.
There’s still no word on when Season 5 will be coming out but it’s probably going to take a while considering how significant the reworks will be. In the meantime, you can learn more about the changes on the Last Oasis Steam page.
