Neverwinter's Return to Pirates’ Skyhold Update Arrives November 19
The F2P Neverwinter is bringing back an old favorite with its 30th major update, As Above, So Below – Return to Pirates’ Skyhold. Launching on November 19 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, the module takes players back to the iconic Pirates’ Skyhold, a setting that dates back to the game’s early days. The new update introduces revamped content, from an enhanced adventure zone to reimagined dungeons and various quality-of-life improvements.
Return to Pirates’ Skyhold
Originally introduced in 2013, the Pirates' Skyhold is a floating pirate haven known for its challenging encounters. In this update, Neverwinter takes players on a journey back in time to explore the secrets of the Skyhold and discover the fate of its cursed inhabitants. Here’s what adventurers can expect:
- Adventure Zone Overhaul: Pirates' Skyhold has been updated with modern design elements, including overhauled visuals and new areas. Players will explore swamps, sepulchers, and the sky islands to uncover secrets and lore lost to time.
- Expanded Encounters: The Skyhold now hosts six new Heroic Encounters, ten Named Encounters, and additional quest opportunities. With danger lurking around every corner, there’s plenty to test even the most experienced adventurers.
The Dread Sanctum – Revamped Dungeon
The update also brings back The Dread Vault, now transformed into The Dread Sanctum. This redesigned dungeon ramps up the stakes with a fresh roster of monsters and bosses. With three difficulty levels—Normal, Advanced, and Master—players can challenge themselves solo, in a team, or as part of a guild:
- Final Boss Fight: The Dread Sanctum introduces a climactic new boss battle, offering rewards that scale with difficulty.
- New Loot System: Each difficulty level provides exclusive rewards, with the highest-tier items available only in the Master version.
Additional Quality of Life Updates
In line with from the player community, this module includes various quality-of-life improvements:
- Guild Management: The Guild Log now tracks additional information on member activities, and guilds and alliances can rename themselves as needed. Bulk donations for guild coffers make resource management easier.
- Companion Updates: Fan-favorite companions, like Celeste and the Siege Master, have received upgrades to improve their utility.
- Power Sets Quick Swap: Players can now create and save two Power Sets, allowing for quick toggling between setups during gameplay.
With its blend of nostalgic locations, updated challenges, and player-focused improvements, As Above, So Below – Return to Pirates’ Skyhold aims to give Neverwinter veterans and newcomers fresh content while adding strategic depth. With further expansions planned for next year, the Neverwinter experience continues to grow in scope. This is impressive, considering that Neverwinter has been around for over 10 years, having launched back in 2013. While it's not as popular as it used to be, the game still averages ~600 concurrent players on Steam alone, with many more on consoles.
