Inflexion Games Prioritizes Offline Mode For Nightingale Due To Insistent Demand
a rocky start earlier this week when it officially launched into early access on PC. Since its launch, the Victorian survival sandbox game has been plagued by crippling server and network issues including extremely high latency in all ed regions.
Players also complained about the game’s clunky UI and relatively unpolished state even for an early access game. One of the biggest complaints, however, was the lack of an offline mode even for solo-play, which would have at least saved players from the ongoing network issues and high pings.
Developer Inflexion Games promptly defended their decision to forego an offline mode, saying that the game was designed primarily with cooperative play in mind, but also assured the community that they’re working to add the feature as soon as possible.
“Our vision for the game since inception was to create an interconnected series of Realms, with the idea of allowing for co-operative exploration in mind - a universe bigger than a single Realm or server,” the studio explained. “That meant we made a choice early in development between ing co-op from day one or focusing development on an offline mode. We are now prioritizing and developing an offline mode that we plan to release as soon as feasible.”
The developers added that they “misjudged” the demand for an offline mode and that they opted to get the more “technically challenging” part of the game out of the way first. For now, players will just have to tough it out.
