Path Of Exile Officially Unveils Affliction Expansion And Its New Challenge League
Path of Exile is taking players on a journey through a dark forest when its Affliction expansion launches on PC next week. The free-to-play expansion will feature the titular challenge league, Ascendancy classes, and a collection of new rewards to earn.
The Affliction challenge league will send you off to the Viridian Wildwood, a forest afflicted by a mysterious darkness. While exploring Wraeclast, keep an eye out for Sacred Wisps that will point you to overgrown entrances leading to the Wildwood. These wisps will also light the way for you as you make your way through the dark and foreboding forest. Tread carefully though as monsters can jump out from anywhere at any time to attack you. Sacred Wisps also burn out after a certain amount of time and will open a portal back to where you entered the forest when they run out of power.
As you make your way through the Viridian Wildwood, you’ll encounter special-colored wisps which will guide you to points-of-interest, special enemies, and bosses hidden within the darkness. Any special wisps you collect during your jaunts through the cursed forest will make their way back with you to Wraeclast and will randomly imbue nearby monsters, or even bosses, to increase their power and also their rewards.
Players can also chance upon Azmeri wanderers who’ve managed to survive within the forest since it was cursed. Each of the three wanderers have different survival specializations that corresponds to one of the new Ascendancy Classes: Wildwood Primalist, Warden of the Maji, and Warlock of the Mists. You’ll be able to unlock up to 8 points for your chosen class as you complete quests for the Azmeri wanderer you’ve aligned yourself with.
Path of Exile: Affliction is coming to PC on December 8th followed by a console release on December 13th. In the meantime, you can check out the full reveal livestream below for more information about the new challenge league. The patch notes are also now available for review on the Path of Exile official site.
