Revelation Online Talks Bugs, Localization, And Introduces A Bug Tracker
In the Revelation Online website the developers talk bugs, the hurdles of localization, and introduce a bug tracker to the game. But before we get to the details the team did release one interesting statistic. Apparently, 91% of players who had a CBT key logged in on Friday and played throughout the weekend.
I can believe it. Every time I to Revelation I'm amazed at how many people are playing. But now for the goods.
Bugs. If you've played in the CBT you know the game is riddled with bugs, particularly missing NPCs. And the team offers its apologies. But they failed to mention optimization issues: mainly how the game saps my U and the UI disappears after about 20 minutes of play. Hopefully, it's addressed by the next CBT.
Translations. They're sorely missing. Revelation Online's text is a smorgasbord of Chinese, Russian, and some English. It's not easy to translate a game:
Localizing a game is always a monumental effort, and we decided to share some numbers on this topic. There are over 9,000,000 Chinese characters within the game as text strings. There are almost 1,000 interface files that need to be translated, resized, and reworked, and hundreds of 2D art pieces that contain text in some form or another. You will be able to see our translation improvements take shape during the closed beta phases.
And finally on the menu, a bugtracker. Seems to me that a bugtracker would be something to include in a CBT from the beginning. But better late than never. There is a bug report guide to glance over before you start spamming the system with issues.
The Closed Beta will run until November 17th. A second CBT is planned, but there has been no announced release date as of yet.
