Riot's MMO Project 'Reset' and 'Going Dark For A Long Time'

Marc Merill, co-founder of Riot Games, announced today on X that the MMO project the company has been working on for a few years now has 'reset' and will be 'going dark for a long time', meaning people shouldn't be expecting any news or updates about it for several years. This doesn't mean the game is cancelled though, as Marc specifically said they're continuing development and announced that they hired a new executive producer, Fabrice Condominas, who previously worked on big projects at Riot, BioWare, and EA.

Anyone following the development of the Riot MMO shouldn't be too surprised, as something must have happened during development for the game's previous executive producer, Greg Street (GhostCrawler), to leave the project last year. GhostCrawler himself said he left for a combination of personal and professional reasons. He later announced he's working on a new MMO and is being backed by Netease.

The main reason behind the project resetting is that it didn't meet the company's expectations in of uniquness. Riot wants a new experience for players, not just League of Legends theme.
