War Thunder Devs Revert Economy Changes Under Threat Of Review Bombing
War Thunder following a massive player outcry and calls for review bombing. The new economy system would have resulted in an increase in the price of Rank III vehicles as well as higher currency costs for repairs, ammunition, suspended weapons, and Crew Replenishment expendable mods, which didn’t sit well with the community for obvious reasons.
Despite claims that the changes would generally be helpful to players and that some of the community agreed with them, Gaijin ultimately decided to ditch the plan altogether rather than face backlash from its playerbase.
The studio, however, is still planning to revamp the WWII vehicle shooter’s economy but is now asking players to offer by completing this survey by May 25th. The dev team also promised to be more transparent and to offer detailed explanations on the changes.
Creative Director Kirill Yudintsev also shared his views on how important the economy is for the free-to-play shooter and pleaded with the community to avoid using review bombing as a way to express their displeasure, lest it scare away new players.
“[…] The majority of new players just look at the score evaluation, and do not read the text of reviews and do not go into what they were left for. So review bombing does damage to the game in that new players simply won’t try it, while it doesn’t raise their awareness of the problems you’ve noticed,” said Yudintsev. “If your goal is not to hurt the game, please use other, less destructive ways.”
We just released a follow-up statement on our planned economy changes.
