The Black Desert Online battle royale mode is now a full-fledged standalone game. Welcome to Shadow Arena! Choose to fight as one of nine heroes from the Black Desert Universe, each with their own set of skills, strengths and weaknesses. Choose to go solo or as part of a two-man team and step foot into a rich fantasy arena where only the strongest and most cunning warriors survive. Explore towns, ruins, and different biomes as you take down monsters and field bosses to acquire crucial weapons and gear while keeping a close eye out for enemy fighters that might be lurking nearby. Stay ahead of the rapidly shrinking Dark Fog or face a horrible death at the hands of the Black Spirit. Chain skills together and employ powerful combos to decimate the competition and be crowned the last man standing.
Shadow Arena Key Features:
- 40-Player Battle Royale – fight it out with other players in a massive fantasy arena where only the strongest and most cunning will be left standing on the battlefield.
- Multiple Classes – choose to fight as one of nine heroes. Each hero features a unique skillset as well as different strengths and weaknesses.
- Action-Packed Combat – the full action combat system allows you to dodge projectiles and spells, blink away from danger, and chain combos together to make quick work of your enemies.
- Mobs & Bosses – mobs and field bosses drop random pieces of equipment of varying quality. The more of them you kill the higher your chances of getting better and more powerful gear.
- Dark Fog – the Dark Fog is the home of the Black Spirit and will continually shrink to force combatants into a smaller area. Outrun and keep ahead the rapidly advancing fog or face a horrible death.
- Skills Progression – regularly using your favorite hero will earn you mastery points resulting in more powerful abilities and skills.

Development History / Background:
Shadow Arena is a 3D battle royale game developed and published by Pearl Abyss. The game initially started out as a battle royale mode for Black Desert Online and was first announced on January 8, 2019. The mode itself went live on February 28, 2019 but was shut down a few months later on April 10, 2019 due to problems with cheating, hacking, and smurf s that took too much of the developers’ time.
Pearl Abyss re-announced Shadow Arena as a standalone game in August 2019. This was then followed by a short closed beta test that ran from February 27 to March 10, 2020.
Open Beta began on May 21, 2020 on Steam. The game was shut down on August 10, 2022.
