Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Player Count Surges Following Skull And Bones’ Launch

Before it became a standalone pirate game, Skull and Bones was originally meant to be an expansion for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. Now that it’s officially launched, it’s naturally drawn attention back to Black Flag which is seeing a significant increase in its player count on Steam.

Prior to Skull and Bones’ release, Black Flag’s peak player count sat at just around 1,000 players, now it’s surged to roughly 3,200, with nearly 1,500 players online as I write this piece. The surge is presumably attributed to disappointed Skull and Bones players looking for a more fleshed out virtual pirate experience. While Skull and Bones has its charms, it could use a lot more meaningful content and not just filler quests meant to keep players busy.

Since Skull and Bones is only available via the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Connect, there’s no way of comparing its current player count with that of Black Flag. If Skull and Bones isn’t scratching your pirate itch, an Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake is apparently already in the works.
