The Division Update 1.6 Will Open Three New Dark Zone Areas, More
When The Division's third expansion, Last Stand, goes live, a massive update, Update 1.6, will also be going live for all players, regardless of whether they own Last Stand. With the "major overhaul" from Update 1.4 and Update 1.5 complete, Ubisoft has now set its sights on providing players with a large assortment of new content. Thus, Update 1.6 will introduce three new Dark Zone areas along the northern front, nearly doubling the size of the Dark Zone, introduce Contamination events in the Dark Zone, add Dark Zone leaderboards, allow players to play three missions on a new "Legendary difficulty," introduce the "Exotic" tier of items for "named weapons and gear," add a new gear set, and more.
The new Contamination events will require players to face off against elite Cleaners in the Dark Zone. Approximately once an hour, elite Cleaners will spawn in underground Dark Zone areas that have "reached unprecedented lethal levels." Players will be required to take them out quickly, as their virus filters "will not be enough to resist it."
An assortment of PvP balance changes are also being made. The goal with these changes is to make PvP "more rewarding and fun to play."
