Guild Wars 2 “Absolution” Update Focuses on Inventory and Quality-of-Life Fixes
Guild Wars 2 is gearing up for its next major patch, “Absolution,” as part of the ongoing Janthir Wilds expansion. Scheduled for release on June 3, this update introduces a series of quality-of-life improvements that directly address player —especially around inventory management, crafting, and daily routines.
Since its launch in 2012, Guild Wars 2 has built a reputation for its evolving world and robust community-driven updates. With Absolution, ArenaNet is streamlining some long-standing pain points, offering new tools and changes that are meant to reduce clutter and make everyday gameplay smoother for both newcomers and veterans.
- Wizard’s Portal Tome: This new item consolidates over 30 teleportation devices into a single slot. Players will earn it by completing the “Work Hard for Now” side story from Astral Ward Medic Miyrna in Lion’s Arch or Bava Nisos. The tome works similarly to existing portal tomes, letting players select destinations from a menu and freeing up valuable inventory space.
- Wizard’s Gobbler: Drawing on about clutter from exchange items known as “gobblers,” this new device combines the function of 20+ existing exchangers. Players can purchase the Wizard’s Gobbler from Gharr Leadclaw in Lion’s Arch, and it will retroactively for items you’ve already collected or achievements you’ve completed.
- Rift Essence Conversion: Rift essence, previously a source of inventory overflow, can now be converted directly into wallet currency. Players can either consume essence themselves or visit Rift Researcher Adam in Lowland Shore or the Wizard’s Tower for mass conversion. This change comes with updates to recipes, vendor prices, and rewards.
- Research Note Crafting: All crafting disciplines will gain access to a new recipe, Peer Reviewed Research, which is available regardless of crafting level. Each craft grants 150 research notes, making the resource much easier to obtain.
- Faction Provisioner Purchase Limits: Instead of being limited to one purchase per day, players can now make up to seven purchases per week from faction provisioners in Central Tyria and Heart of Maguuma, simplifying acquisition without changing the total weekly limit.
- Commander’s Choice Chest Changes: Players can now bulk exchange Hero’s Choice Chests and karma for a new Commander’s Choice Chest at various vendors in major locations. This allows for mass selection of rewards without losing out on valuable items, streamlining a process that was previously slow and cumbersome.
- Homestead Decoration Limit Increase: The cap for decorations in player homesteads will double from 1,000 to 2,000. This can be increased in increments by purchagrades from Deft Lahar or by training the Grandmaster Handiworker Crafting tier. New home instance nodes are also being added for additional customization and gathering.
Despite having launched back in 2012, Guild Wars 2 remains one of the most polished MMORPGs in the West.
