EVE Online Talks About The Intricacies Of Havoc’s New Pirate Factions And Raids
C Games dives deeper into EVE Online’s pirate factions and how it will throw a wrench into the ongoing faction wars across New Eden.
The Gurista Pirates and the Angel Cartel will be taking in new when the Havoc expansion comes out next month. Both factions have been around for a while, wreaking havoc across the star system, but the expansion’s release will give players the ability to align themselves with either one of the two pirate factions and gain access to unique perks and benefits.
Pirate-aligned players will be tasked with completing various illicit activities when a pirate raid is active. They’ll be able to launch from a pirate-owned forward operating base and will increase a new system-wide metric called corruption as they complete pirate-related missions as empire faction players attempt to thwart them and restore order to the system.
As corruption levels rise, pirates will enjoy various benefits such as increased loot drops from player ships at lower levels and access to certain system-restricted weapons when they reach the maximum corruption level.
On the flip side, empire-aligned players will increase the suppression level of the system when they successfully prevent pirate attacks. Increased suppression levels will grant them bigger pirate bounty payouts at lower levels and allow them to build new defense structures to help deter future attacks.
Each side will also earn one insurgency point each time they reach maximum corruption or suppression levels in each system. Reaching the insurgency point goal will trigger a different global event depending on which side reaches the goal. For pirate factions, corruption will increase on all nearby systems. They’ll also get to keep all of their loot from the raid. For empire factions, they’ll be able to attack the pirate forward operating base to help curb piracy and stem pirate reinforcements.
C Games notes that reaching maximum corruption and suppression levels will be challenging and that it’s possible for a system to be at the maximum level for each metric at the same time. They go into further detail in the new developer update video below. It’s a must-watch if you’re looking to the fight when Havoc launches on November 14th.
