Genshin Impact Mobile Lifetime Revenue Hits $3.7 Billion

Genshin Impact, the hit mobile and PC anime gacha RPG from MiHoyo, has earned $3.7 billion on mobile (iOS and Android) since its launch in September 2020. Not too shabby for 2 years ($1.85B / year). That's over $150m a month!

To put that number into context, MMORPGs in the West, generates about $350m a year (about $30m a month).

The Genshin figures are actually understating the game's success as it includes only mobile revenues and ignores sales from PC players.

What makes Genshin Impact's numbers particularly impressive, at least to me, is that the vast majority of player spending ($2.5B) is outside of its home market of China. Prior to Genshin's success worldwide, Chinese games generally only performed well within china. Genshin Impact proved to the world that Chinese developers can make games that appeal to global audiences.

33% of Genshin Impact's revenue came from China while Japan was #2 with 24% of revenue. The United States made up 17%.

If you haven't played Genshin Impact yet, it's well worth checking out. It's available on mobile as well as PC. They just launched a pretty big update yesterday as well.
