Ship Of Heroes’ Steam Page Is Now Live Ahead Of Its Expected Launch In December

Back in January, Heroic Games revealed its plans to launch Ship of Heroes on Steam. The studio is now one step closer to making that a reality as the superhero MMORPG’s official Steam page goes live.

Aside from the benefit of being able to deliver Ship of Heroes to a wider audience, the team says the the platform will also help improve the overall player experience, particularly when it comes to ing the game client and future updates.

“Originally, we planned to host SoH without using a platform,” said Heroic. “But during our Betas, several players reported needing hours to the game, and hours more for every patch. We needed a better er/patcher. […] After reviewing the options, Steam stood out as having the best patcher available, and it has performed flawlessly in two housing Betas. Typical patch times are down from hours to minutes!”

The studio also reveals that its working on automating creation through Steam and preparing the servers to better handle the flood of players that’s expected to flock to the game when it finally launches at the end of the year.

“We’re still aiming for a game launch at the end of 2023, but whatever happens, you will see very significant advancement and expansion of what you have played before,” says the devs.

Ship of Heroes is being billed as a spiritual successor to the now-defunct City of Heroes MMORPG which sunsetted way back in 2012. It’s the latest in a long line of crowdfunded MMO’s promising to resurrect the beloved game. It’s also probably the closest to actually launching as a full game and is now available for wishlisting on Steam.
