Destiny 2 is a 3D sci-fi MMOFPS by the studio behind the Halo series. It is a direct sequel to the original, console-only Destiny and takes place one year after the events of the Rise of Iron expansion.

Destiny 2 Overview
Destiny 2 is a sci-fi looter shooter with MMO elements. It includes the same 3 Guardian Classes: Warlock, Hunter, Titan but adds new super abilities to each along with many subclasses. Set one year after the events of the final Destiny expansion, the sequel expands on the original in many ways. A much larger world consisting of many new regions, instant travel (no need to orbit), more NPCs and PvE activities, and new raids await. The core game is free to play, but expansions cost money.

Development History / Background:
Destiny 2 was first announced in November 2014 by Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg. The game was originally planned to release in September 2016, but Bungie announced on February 11, 2016 that Destiny 2 was pushed back to 2017.
Bungie has been assisted in development by Vicarious Visions and High Moon Studios.
Unlike the original game, Destiny 2 will be released for the PC and distributed on the Blizzard Launcher. Several editions of the game are currently planned for sale including: a Collector's Edition, a Limited Edition, a Digital Deluxe Edition, and a standard version. Pre-orders grant players access to the game's beta. An Expansion will also be sold granting players access to the first 2 expansions when they are released.
Destiny 2 launched on September 6, 2017 on Battle.net, but Blizzard and Bungie separated in early 2019, with Bungie taking over publishing rights.
Destiny 2 also announced that it would go free to play on September 17, but expansions will continue to cost money. Since going free to play the game's playerbase has increased significantly. Its regularly one of the most played games on Steam.
