ESPN And ABC Cancels Apex Legends Tournament TV Broadcast In Response To The Recent Mass Shootings
Apex Legends EXP Invitational eSports TV broadcast. An ESPN spokesperson confirmed the news to Rock Paper Shotgun saying that, “The decision was made out of respect for the victims and all those impacted in the immediate aftermath of the shootings and it seemed the prudent thing to do given the swirl of that moment.”
ABC will be airing a hockey documentary in place of the eSports event while ESPN is still planning to air the tournament highlights in October.
During the past week, prominent US companies and personalities including the President himself have issued statements that violence in video games were partly to blame for the tragic incidents. The program’s cancellation is just one of the measures being taken against violent video games and their alleged link to the mass shootings. Walmart has also removed displays and demos for violent video games, although they still continue to sell firearms.
