Hellgate London 2038 Open Beta Begins Oct 31 (Hellgate London Private Server)

action MMORPG shooter, officially shut down on January 31, 2009. HanbitSoft has since relaunched the game and introduced many changes, but that version never gained much traction, but fans of the game finally have something to look forward to. A totally free to play, non commercial, fan-made private server is set to launch tomorrow on October 31st and promises to bring back the classic experience.

There seems to be some excitement for this private server as well, as the official discord regularly has over 1,000 online. Keep in mind though, this free to play private server is exactly that, a private server. They don't hold any of the copyright to the game and are simply running it as a ion project, so it could shut down without notice in the future.

The developers plainly state on their website:

"We are not the owners or copyright holders of Hellgate: London! We are just fans running a server which allows players who own the game to experience multiplayer again. We do not distribute the game, and we absolutely cannot encourage, advise, or facilitate piracy! You must own a copy of the game to play our mod."
