Improbable Snaps Up Seattle-Based ‘Scavengers’ Developer Midwinter Entertainment
London-based games technology company Improbable announced today that it has acquired ‘Scavengers’ developer, Midwinter Entertainment. According to the press release, the recent acquisition is Imrobable’s first ever acquisition of a fully-established game development studio.

Midwinter brings to Improbable a high calibre of technical expertise and significant experience developing for AAA games. Their continued contribution to Improbable’s core technology, SpatialOS, will now be streamlined, ing Improbable’s other internal studios in furthering the platform, making it a more useful tool for independent game developers and studios building multiplayer games.”

Announced back in March 2018, Scavengers, Midwinter Entertainment’s debut title, is a class-based online multiplayer shooter featuring a unique “co-opetition” system. Set in a frigid post-apocalyptic world, teams compete to collect resources, battling not only with each other but also against advanced AI enemies. Players can take on the frozen wasteland’s challenges as a single team or form fragile alliances with other teams to increase their chances of winning. The game is being developed with Unreal Engine and Improbable’s Spatial OS and partly funded through a multimillion-dollar investment from Improbable.
