The Division Gets New Cheat Detection Methods, Better Communication Regarding Exploits

Ubisoft announced today in a new blog post that they are taking new measures to cut down on cheats and bug exploits in The Division. New cheat detection methods have been implemented, with further upgrades currently being worked on. "We have already caught more cheaters in the last few days than we had in total during the previous weeks," the post states, "As a result, we will be handing out the biggest wave of suspensions and bans to date over the course of the next few days." Each cheater will be given a 14-day suspension the first time they are caught, up from the previous 3-day suspensions that were given out for the first offense. The second time a cheater is caught, they will be permanently banned.

Ubisoft will also work to identify whether a bug can be used as an exploit more quickly, listing each exploit in a forum post where players can find them easily. The new definition given for an exploit is "the active triggering and use of a bug or glitch to by established game rules in order to gain a significant advantage or skip progression steps otherwise necessary." Upon being caught abusing an exploit, "sanctions" will be handed out based on the severity of the exploit abuse and the player's prior offenses. Potential punishments include "character rollbacks, suspensions, and permanent bans."
